Miami Emerging Arts Leaders. Cultural Tourism in Miami: What Every Emerging Arts Leader Should Know.

Join the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders for a virtual interview with Marshall Davis, Managing Director of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, with opening remarks by Michael Spring, Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. For 38 years,  Mr. Davis has helped shape Miami’s cultural landscape through his work at the Center, promoting Black arts excellence and providing exceptional arts education. Mr. Davis designed revolutionary, multidisciplinary arts training programs to engage students with their cultural heritage while training in theater, dance, music and the visual arts.

Since opening its doors in 1975, the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center has served as an outstanding center of arts in Liberty City and has launched the careers of numerous established, high profile alumni who credit their successes in the arts to their high quality training and experiences at the Center. Artists such as: Tarell Alvin McCraney (Award-winning playwright and Oscar winner for Moonlight), Bianca Brewton (Dancer, Katy Perry; Beyoncé, Lemonade) and Robert Battle (Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.)

Among his many credits, in 2014 he received the African-American Achievers Award for Arts & Culture; in 2017, he was honored as a Knight Arts Champion; and, this year, on November 7th, he was awarded a Carbonell Award, the Inaugural Vinnette Carroll Award, an award that honors significant achievement in advancing the cause of diversity, equality, and inclusion in South Florida theater.

Facilitated by Marialaura Leslie, Deputy Director, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and followed by an interactive Q&A.
